Garachico – Los silos – Teno Rural Park
If you want to reach the end of the world, you’re on the right path. Isla Baja has been forged by lava and erosion, sea and salt, gofio and Canaries sauce, limpets, octopus and vieja fish, wine presses and chácara (Canaries castanets). It is a piece of paradise both hidden away and close by where time has stopped to wait for the traveller to arrive.
Not even the Trevejo volcano managed to wipe out Garachico’s charm. Its streets entice you to a walk, the verodes lean curiously over the roofs and the sash windows frame the Atlantic and the Caletón pools.
On the way to Los Silos, the winding road runs through banana plantations by the ocean, with green hills for backdrop. It’s a peaceful unpretentious village, with its own pace: a place to wander around its corners and enjoy it slowly. The impressive skeleton of a whale watches over the coastline, pointing at a treasure hidden before your very eyes: El Rayo. Can you find it?
Then there’s Teno, the northwest end of Tenerife, the corner of the island that seems to be trying to make its away into the waves; a place far from the world with dream sunsets and indescribably powerful yet delicate landscapes, for ever watched over by a lonely lighthouse.
